Exhale

I breathed you in.
I learned your scent,

your voice,

            your essence.
And you made a temporary home within me
beneath my ribcage,
infiltrating my lungs.
            You curled around me and lingered.
You lost your way when you seeped into my heart.
That wasn't where I'd intended you'd stay.
You were a breath of fresh air,
but you've suffocated me.
            I've forgotten how to exhale.
